About Dice Chess

Dice Chess takes the familiar architecture of chess and throws a literal wildcard into every turn. The exact title says it plainly: dice decide which pieces move, so even the sharpest tactical plan can unravel the moment the cubes land. The result is a strategy game that sits at the crossroads of careful calculation and pure chance, demanding that players adapt on the fly rather than execute a fixed script.

Three difficulty levels — Beginner, Experienced, and Master — mean the smart opponents scale with your ambition, and a rating system anchored at 1200 points gives every match a concrete stake. Time controls stretch from quick blitz games all the way to infinite time, so the pace is yours to set.

How to Play Dice Chess: Capture the King to Win

Dice Roll and Available Moves

At the start of each turn, three dice are rolled. Each face shows one of the six piece types: Pawn, Knight, Bishop, Rook, Queen, or King. Only the pieces that appear on those dice may be moved during that turn, and each piece still moves exactly as it does in standard chess.

Actions Per Turn

Up to three actions are available each turn — one per die result. If the rolled pieces have no legal moves available, all actions for that turn are forfeited and play passes to the opponent.

Winning the Match

There is no check or checkmate in Dice Chess. The sole objective is to capture the enemy King outright. The match ends with an explosion the moment the King is taken. If the timer runs out before that happens, the player whose time expires loses.

Key Features

    • Unique gameplay: a balance between strict tactics and the thrill of chance, driven by the three-dice mechanic each turn.
    • Smart opponents: three difficulty levels — Beginner, Experienced, and Master.
    • Rating system: start at 1200 points and climb with every victory.
    • Match settings: choose time controls ranging from quick blitz games to infinite time.
