About Abyss Contract: Dark Fantasy Roguelite with Signed Curses

Abyss Contract is a dark fantasy roguelite survivor where the difficulty is yours to set before you ever take a step. Before each descent, you sign curses onto your contract — a denser swarm, a dimmer lantern, angrier enemies — and the harsher the terms, the more in-game gold the run returns. The game spans 5 biomes and 25 contracts, with 3 distinct heroes and 52 upgrade cards shaping every run. Several scenes show the action unfolding in shadowy underground spaces lit by a single lantern's glow. The dark aesthetics and contract system pull you in from the opening moments.

How to Play Abyss Contract: Sign, Descend, and Survive

Sign a contract, descend into the Abyss, and fulfil its terms. Each of the 25 contracts presents a unique challenge, and you are able to only unlock the next mission by completing the current one. Your weapon fires automatically at the nearest enemy, so positioning is the core skill.

When you level up during a run, three cards drawn from the pool of 52 drop for you to choose from — the battle does not stop while you decide. Once the objective is complete, you face a choice: take the gold and end the run, or descend one rung deeper for a higher reward multiplier. Dying at that deeper rung takes away half of your accumulated gold. Death in battle ends the current run, but gold earned before a risky descent is preserved and spent on permanent hero upgrades and unlocking new characters.

Contract Objectives

    • Destroy the nests
    • Survive the waves
    • Bring down the monolith
    • Hold the beacon
    • Kill the boss

Difficulty and Curses

Each contract includes a curse that complicates the task — for example, a dense horde increases the number of monsters pursuing you. As you progress, the tasks themselves grow harder and monsters gain strength and resistance to your attacks. The harsher the curse terms you sign, the more gold the run brings back.

Upgrades and Economy

Gold earned across runs is spent inside the game on permanent upgrades. The upgrade categories are:

    • Hero: HP, Speed, Dash Cooldown, Pickup Range, Damage Taken, Ability Cooldown
    • Weapon: Damage, Attack Speed, Base Price
    • Cards: choose which cards appear more frequently when selecting upgrades during missions
    • Contract Authority: acquire the right to sign more points in the contract to increase the gold earned at the end

Characters / Heroes / Skins

    • Hunter: balanced auto-crossbow ranger, single-target, reliable — Health 100, Damage 18, Speed 270, Ult: Volley
    • Vanguard: melee bruiser who cleaves in an arc and dives in to soak hits — Health 150, Damage 29, Speed 256, Ult: Leap Slam (dash is a damaging lunge through enemies)
    • Stormcaller: fragile storm caster with instant chain-lightning that leaps across the horde — Health 70, Damage 23, Speed 270, Ult: Blink Nova

FAQ

What is the overall goal in Abyss Contract?

You must sign a contract and complete a mission 25 times to escape the Abyss. Each contract presents a unique objective, and completing it unlocks the next one. Finishing all 25 contracts represents full progression through the game.

What happens to gold when you die?

Death in battle ends the current run, but gold earned up to that point is preserved for permanent upgrades — as long as you did not die during the optional deeper descent. Dying on that risky descent takes away half of your accumulated gold.

How does the contract curse system work?

Before each run you sign curses onto your contract — such as a denser swarm, a dimmer lantern, or angrier enemies. The harsher the terms you agree to, the more in-game gold the completed run returns.

Does each hero have separate progress?

Yes. Each of the three heroes — Hunter, Vanguard, and Stormcaller — has its own progress, upgrades, and settings, so advancement on one does not carry over to another.

Is there a leaderboard?

Yes. The more contracts you complete, the higher your position on the leaderboard.

Can the audio be adjusted?

The sound can be adjusted in the settings through a separate mixer with four channels: Master, SFX, Music, and Ambience.
